1. What are the steps to becoming a baseball player
for TYA?
The steps are pretty simple:
Step 1: Register your son
Step 2a: If you registered for T-Ball or Junior Midgets you
will be assigned to a team.
Step 2b: If you registered for Senior Midgets, Minors, Majors,
or Seniors you will go through an evaluation process so that the coaches
can properly assess your skill level. Based on the results of the
evaluation, you will be assigned to a team in the appropriate division.
The intent is to ensure that all teams are balanced in their overall
ability.
Step 3: Once assigned to a team, your coach will contact you
with your practice times.
2. How do I register?

Step 3: Wait for someone to contact you about your team assignments
or evaluation time. Be sure to check the TYA web site for latest updates
of where things are in the registration process.
3. Can I be put on a team with my friends or a
neighbor?
If you signed up for T-Ball you can request to be grouped with certain
players or coaches. When creating the teams, TYA will make all attempts
to honor these requests.
If you signed up for Junior Midgets, Senior Midgets, Minors, Majors,
or Seniors these requests typically are not honored. In an attempt
to ensure that all teams are created with relatively equal ability,
each player is evaluated and then assigned a team based on their ability.
4. Last year (2007) I played in a certain division.
What division should I play in this year?
Here's a chart which provides a guideline of where you should be
playing in the 2008:
| Last Year |
This Year |
| T-Ball |
Junior Midgets |
| Junior Midgets |
Junior Midgets or Senior Midgets |
| Senior Midgets |
Senior Midgets or Minors |
| Minors |
Minors or Majors |
| Majors |
Majors or Senior Majors |
| Seniors |
Seniors |
Remember that all players from the Minors division on up
are evaluated in order to determine their proper placement.
5. Do I have to volunteer for a position?
The TYA organization is entirely volunteer-based. All funding is
provided through team sponsors, fund raising activities, and league
participation fees. The operation of the league is completely dependent
upon the efforts of volunteers. From coaches to umpires to field maintenance
to bookkeeping, everything is done by volunteers.
So what does all that mean? What it means is that there is a significant
amount of work which requires attention from a lot of volunteers.
Without the volunteers, the work doesn't get done. This results in
the league suffering and ultimately the kids being impacted in a negative
manner.
So in order to provide the best experience for the kids, TYA is requiring
that everyone pitches in and helps out.
If for some reason you can't or just don't want to help out, TYA
has created a volunteer opt out fee. These fees are then used to purchase
things such as new equipment or field maintenance tools; so in a way
you are still helping out the league.
6. What ages are eligible to play TYA baseball?
TYA supports baseball programs ranging from ages 5 thru 18.
If you are ages 5 - 12, then you will participate in the Cal Ripken
program.
If you are ages 13 - 18, then you will participate in the Connie
Mack program.
7. When does the season start?
Typically the season starts at the beginning of April and runs through
the middle of June. Games are played on weeknights and Saturdays.
Once the registration period is completed, specific dates will be
determined.
8. Where are the fields located?
For the 2008 season, TYA will primarily be using fields at our NEW
Green Lane Facility, Bustard Park, General Nash Elementary, Heebner Road Park,
and Hatfield Quality Meats. Refer to to individual league for more details.
9. What time do the games start?

typically start around 10AM.
